Week 3 singers include 90-year-old country crooner
The third, and final, wave of Fargo Star singers is ready to be voted on, and it’s a rather eclectic group.
Among the variety of voices is a guy who simply goes by the name of Country Kenny, a 90-year-old singer from Battle Lake, Minn., who captivated us at a Fargo Star recording session in the Divas and Rockstars karaoke bar.
The charismatic country music fan takes the stage in a way Hank Williams – whom he covered in his Fargo Star video – would admire; Kenny gets up there, grabs the mic and sings from his soul.
Plus, he’s not afraid to dance.
This third group also features Christopher Ashmore, a Fargo Star finalist from last year who sings Journey songs so well it’s like he was meant to front a tribute band.
He’s reaching back into the Journey catalog this year with the band’s ballad “Faithfully.”
Shaun Schipper, another returning Fargo Star finalist, returns this year with one more of the Fargo singer/songwriter’s original tunes. This one’s a gentle acoustic-guitar led track called “I’m Gonna Dance When I Get to Heaven.”
Check out the other 24 singers at fargostar.areavoices.com. And, remember, the two singers with the most votes qualify for the Fargo Star finals on Feb. 25 at The Hub.
